Peer Review Process

Peer Review Process: Journal of Islamic Studies

  1. Initial Submission:

    • Authors submit their manuscripts through the journal's online submission system.

    • Manuscripts are initially reviewed by the editorial team to ensure alignment with the journal's focus and scope.

    • If the manuscript is deemed suitable, it moves to the next stage of the review process.

  2. Editor’s Assessment:

    • The editor evaluates the manuscript for quality, originality, and relevance to the journal’s thematic areas.

    • Manuscripts that meet basic criteria are sent for peer review, while those that do not may be rejected at this stage.

  3. Selection of Peer Reviewers:

    • The editor selects two to three independent, qualified experts in the relevant field(s) of the submitted manuscript.

    • Peer reviewers are chosen based on their expertise, experience, and lack of conflict of interest with the authors.

  4. Peer Review Process:

    • Reviewers evaluate the manuscript for:

      • Scientific quality and accuracy

      • Clarity and coherence of argumentation

      • Originality and contribution to the field

      • Methodological rigor (if applicable)

      • Adherence to academic standards and ethical guidelines

    • Reviewers are given a specified timeframe (typically 2-4 weeks) to submit their feedback.

  5. Reviewer Feedback:

    • Reviewers provide constructive feedback, which may include suggestions for revision, additional research, or further clarification of points.

    • Reviewers recommend one of the following decisions:

      • Accept as is

      • Accept with minor revisions

      • Revise and resubmit

      • Reject

  6. Decision by Editor:

    • The editor reviews the feedback from the peer reviewers.

    • Based on the reviewers' recommendations, the editor makes the final decision on the manuscript:

      • Accept

      • Request revisions

      • Reject

    • If revisions are requested, authors must address reviewers' comments and resubmit the manuscript.

  7. Revisions and Resubmission:

    • Authors revise their manuscript according to the feedback received.

    • Upon resubmission, the manuscript is either sent back to the original reviewers for further evaluation or reviewed by the editor alone.

  8. Final Decision:

    • After revisions are made and re-evaluated, the editor makes a final decision regarding acceptance or rejection.

    • Accepted manuscripts are forwarded for final formatting and publication.

  9. Publication:

    • Accepted articles are prepared for publication, including typesetting, proofreading, and final approval by the authors.

    • Once finalized, articles are published online and in print (if applicable).

  10. Post-Publication:

  • Authors are encouraged to engage with readers, respond to post-publication comments, and promote their work.

  • The journal monitors post-publication discussion and citation of articles to ensure the ongoing academic impact of the research.
